Questions

What is an HS code?

The Harmonized System (HS) is a list of numbered product codes kept by the World Customs Organization. Almost every country uses it to set customs duties and count trade. The first 6 digits are the same everywhere.

Is GTİP the same as an HS code?

Yes. GTİP is Türkiye’s 12-digit customs tariff code. Its first 6 digits are the HS code. The EU uses 8 digits (CN) or 10 digits (TARIC), and the United States uses 10 digits (HTS).

Does organic food have its own HS code?

No. Organic and conventional products use the same HS code. The organic status is shown by the organic certificate and, for many imports, a certificate of inspection.

Who decides the final code for my shipment?

The customs authority of the importing country. Use this list as a starting point and confirm the full national code with your customs broker before you ship.
